About Me
Hi, I’m Laura Zavala-Membreno, the counselor, consultant, and supervisor behind Strata.
As a first-generation college graduate, PhD student, Latina, mom, and proud Houstonian, I know what it’s like to navigate layered identities, responsibilities, and challenges while carving out a path forward. These personal experiences deeply shape how I show up for my clients, supervisees, and the organizations I partner with.
I created Strata with the belief that all of us are made up of many layers - our histories, struggles, strengths, and hopes. Healing and growth come from peeling those layers away with compassion, honoring them and building on the wisdom they carry.
My Approach
Counseling: I provide individual therapy with a trauma-informed, feminist, and culturally responsive lens. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, seen, and supported as you move through healing, growth, and self-discovery.
Supervision: As a Supervisor, I support LPC Associates with warmth, honesty, and encouragement. I see supervision as a collaborative relationship where you can grow your skills, reflect deeply, and find your voice as a counselor.
Consulting & Speaking: I work with organizations, campuses, and communities to build trauma-informed, equity-centered systems and practices. Whether you're seeking training, facilitation, or policy consultation, I’m passionate about bridging compassion with strategy to create sustainable change.
Why This Work Matters to Me
My career has spanned community agencies, higher education, and private practice, always centering survivors, students, and marginalized communities. Across all of these roles, one truth has guided me: people thrive when they are supported with care and dignity. That’s what I aim to offer - whether through therapy, supervision, or consulting.
